Fishermen to report their catch electronically

13. January  2010

Greenlandic fishermen will in the future use Sirius IT's electronic logbook system to report their catch electronically.

Sirius IT has signed an agreement supplying The Fishing License Control of Greenland (GFLK) with vCatch, an electronic logbook system. vCatch will be used by Greenlandic fishermen to report catch and catch-related messages electronically. The system consists of both a vessel client and a server-part to be used by GFLK to receive and control the electronic logbooks.

GFLK is subsidiary of the Home rule Department of Fishery, Hunting and Agriculture. GFLK ensures and monitors that compliance with the Home rule laws and regulations on fisheries are met. Furthermore, GFLK has a corps of approximately 30 fishing license inspectors working as observers on board Greenlandic and foreign fishing vessels, fishing in Greenland and international waters.

With this agreement, GFLK will be the fifth country using Sirius IT's electronic logbook system. GFLK is already using vTrack from Sirius IT to monitor the position of cutters via satellite.
