Sirius IT delivers tracking systems to the American authorities

16. December  2009

Sirius IT has just delivered a tracking system to the American Fishery Administration NOAA. The vTrack solution Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) is an IT solution which will ensure, that fishing quotas are respected and that the authorities economically as well as environmentally will use its resources better.

NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is dedicated to protecting and preserving the nation's living marine resources through scientific research, fisheries management, enforcement and habitat conservation of existing habitat in U.S. waters. The vTrack VMS solution from Sirius IT will support the satellite surveillance of more than 6,000 American fishing boats, the world's largest fishing fleet, and will be served daily by hundreds of users in NOAA headquarters and six regional offices, including Hawaii and Alaska.

Very easy to use

"We choose VMS solution from Sirius IT, because it is very easy to use. At the same time it contains a user-friendly Web interface and a wide range of embedded features. NOAA's ambition is increasingly to take over responsibility for the solution, make configurations, queries, and to make our own reportings. This will be possible with vTrack, and we will not need external consultants or developers, "says National VMS Program Manager Jonathan Pinkerton, NOAA.

vTrack is a web application which makes it possible for users to search and follow the positions of all U.S. fishing boats in one simple system. Users can monitor the boats in each region, install alarms and use the built-in reporting systems. Fishing boats automatically sends information about their positions to the VMS system via GPS, and thus users will receive a complete overview of all activities in each region.

A standard solution for monitoring international waters

"We are very pleased that NOAA has chosen our vTrack system to monitor American fishing boats - the world's largest single system . We have spent many years developing the solution, which we dare to call a groundbreaking standard solution for monitoring international waters. We receive current  feedback from all the countries we have sold the solution to, which allow us to continuously develop new features and functionality so we constantly meet the users wishes, "says Chief Consultant Michael Holk Wätjen, Sirius IT.

Sirius IT's vTrack is used by ministries and international fishing authorities in Denmark, Greece, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Estonia, Lithuania and many other countries.
