The Danish Commerce and Company Agency

In connection with the government’s initiatives regarding increased surveillance and control with the food area an enhanced trade licence was enforced in 2005 for persons and companies who run restaurants or food shops.

All companies that sell food to the consumers for more than 50,000 DKK a year shall be registered in a special register. In this connection food is any kind of beer, soft drinks and other food elements, regardless of closed packaging.

The purpose of the register is to ensure:

The register is managed by several authorities, including the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency, SKAT (tax), the police and the respective food regions.

The Solution

To support the registration of the enhanced trade license for persons and companies Sirius IT has delivered a central trade license register called Naeringsbasen. The register makes it possible to register information about persons and companies who operates within the food area.

In the link to the registration The Danish Commerce and Companies Agency has established a test system via Virk.dk, which shall ensure that people who wish to be admitted to the register have the proper qualifications and thus are entitled to admission.

After admission to the register the supervisory authorities regularly inspect the companies. Inspection can lead to identification of violations that must be rectified. Lack of rectification can as a serious consequence lead to fines and inhibition to hold a trade license. The status of any ongoing cases is kept in the register.

The solution is built around a multi-layer architecture with loosely linked components, where large parts of the solution integrate with components in the authority’s service based architecture, for example the Central Business Register, the Central Office of Civil Registration, the Road Register and Electronic Case and Document Management.
